We reached Dadar station to board our train only to see the train leave without us! We were running cut to cut with time and had expected this but were running towards the train in denial of not missing the train. After calming ourselves down and trying to think rationally, we figured three ways of reaching Rann of Kutch
1 ) Check avaialibitly of 2 more next trains from Bandra
2 ) Ola outstation ( INR 12,000 + taxes for the entire car to and fro )
3 ) Buses from Mumbai to Bhuj ( INR 1200 per person one way )
We checked at Bandra station and did not get any tatkal or premium tatkal tickets. We booked our bus tickets then, the arrival time that the app showed was 11 am the next day. But no! The universe had some other plans and we reached at 3 pm! We missed our last pick up ( bus by Rann of Kutch runs every half an hour from 7 am till 2 : 30 pm ) at 2:30 pm from Bhuj towards Dhorad – The tent city. The organizers arranged for a taxi for us at an additional cost of INR 2200. We asked the driver to travel as fast as the wind as soon as we sat in his car because we did not want to miss the sunset after missing our activities and food in the first half of tent city.
We finally reached the Tent City ( 90 kms from Bhuj ) at 4 : 15 pm, ran towards the registration desk while the porters took our luggage and placed them in our tents for us. The luggage was already outside our tents by the time we reached. There are mini golf carts running in the entire tent city for our pick up and drop anywhere anytime. We hopped into one of those and ran towards our tent to freshen up and leave to catch the sunset at the Great Rann of Kutch! The last bus to leave ( all pick up and drops of the buses for sightseeing inclusions were from the reception ) for the sunset was at 5! We started pacing again and luckily we made in time for this mesmerizing sunset!
After dinner, we called in a day since we had to get up at 6 the next day to witness a breath taking sunrise on the Great Rann of Kutch.
We got up at 5 : 30 – 6 am and left at 6 : 30 am ( last bus ) to catch the sunrise at 7 : 30 am.
We returned and had an amazing breakfast. Post which we roamed inside the tent city.
We clicked pictures, I tried cycling but all my 6 cycles were defective. My colleague’s was alright. There was paint ball session ( Rs. 300 /- ) , double cycle ( Rs. 200 /- ) , zip line, sky jump etc.
Post lunch, we left for Gandhi nu dham ( the most affected village in Bhuj 2002 earthquake). We shopped a few things here to help the locals with their economy.
Our next halt was Kalo Dungar – the highest spot in Kutch.
We left for Bhuj and enroute sightseeing of :
After this we reached Bhuj railway station around 2 pm with a lot of beautiful memories of Rann of Kutch. People boarded trains from there for their homes and we boarded an auto for our next adventure – THE HARAPPAN RUINS, read here .
